<title>Young adult novelist Lisa McMann tells Mr. Media: Wake, Fade, Gone. And make it snappy!</title>
				<link>http://play.callisto.fm/podcasts/by/MrMediaRadio/in/Mr-Media-Radio/episode/Young-adult-novelist-Lisa-McMann-tells-Mr-Media-Wake-Fade-Gone-And-make-it-snappy/</link>
<description>Cover of WakeBy BOB ANDELMAN This is gonna take a minute. It was the last day of our first family vacation in two years and the three of us were unwinding in the enormous Barnes &amp; Noble bookstore in Burlington, Vermont. My 13-year-old daughter Rachel found two young adult novels she wanted to buy, both of which her girlfriends had already read and enjoyed. The first was The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan, which looked like it was cast in the mode of the Harry Potter books, a series that Rachel has read over and over and over. The second was a dark and somewhat frightening looking book titled Wake by Lisa McMann. It&acirc;€™s subtitle: &acirc;€œYour dreams are not your own.&acirc;€ I was dubious; my daughter finds the sight of blood unsettling and isn&acirc;€™t a fan of violence or gore. But it was technically age-appropriate and it meant reading something other than texts on her phone, so okay. She loved both books and consumed them in the next two days. Back home, a few days later, she came over to my desk, holding Wake and asked, &acirc;€œWhat&acirc;€™s your agent&acirc;€™s name?&acirc;€ &acirc;€œMichael Bourret,&acirc;€ I said. With a triumphant look in her eye, she pushed Wake in front of me, open to the Acknowledgements page. I read it and smiled: &acirc;€œWarmest gratitude to my fantastic agent, Michael Bourret, who believed in Janie and me&acirc;€&brvbar;&acirc;€ Small world. This week, Gone, the third and final book in the Wake trilogy, completing the adventures of teenage dream catcher Janie Hannagan, hits the shelves of bookstores everywhere. It&acirc;€™s quite a wild ride. Lisa McMann blog LISA McMANN AUDIO EXCERPT: &quot; When I finished writing Wake, I almost immediately started writing Fade. I know that wasn&#039;t necessarily smart. But I felt like the story wasn&#039;t finished, so I wanted to write it for me. Then I thought, &#039;There could be more.&#039;&quot;&Acirc;&nbsp; Open in your default player Detach into a separate window You can LISTEN to this interview with LISA McMANN, author of WAKE, FADE and GONE, by clicking the audio player above! <title>You'll 'Treasure' this: Nat Gertler's new collection of Peanuts memorabilia! (Interview)</title>
				<link>http://play.callisto.fm/podcasts/by/MrMediaRadio/in/Mr-Media-Radio/episode/Youll-Treasure-this-Nat-Gertlers-new-collection-of-Peanuts-memorabilia-Interview/</link>
<description>Charlie Brown, image via WikipediaBy BOB ANDELMAN (email) Mr. Media Radio When you&acirc;€™re done reading your favorite comic strip today, wouldn&acirc;€™t it be cool to have some lasting ephemera to put on your desk, in your school locker, in the kitchen or on your nightstand? Something that will remind you of the laughs you shared with a beloved cartoon character? Me? Today I&acirc;€™d like a plush Satchel stuffed dog from Get Fuzzy, or a replacement of my long-lost Opus doll from Bloom County. Or anything from Calvin and Hobbs or Pearls Before Swine. &Acirc;&nbsp;--------------Listen to my NAT GERTLER interview!-------------- But when I was kid, long into my teen years and even at college, it was anything Snoopy. I had a poster in my room of Snoopy lying prone on his doghouse, staring at his empty food dish, waiting for the round-headed kid to fill &acirc;€˜er up. I also had stacks of the paperback collections of daily Peanuts strips and a treasured hardbound volume as well, that I couldn&acirc;€™t wait to later pass on to my daughter when she was barely old enough to study the pictures and begin reading. There&acirc;€™s a reason, years after cartoonist Charles Schulz&acirc;€™s death, that Peanuts remains a popular feature in hundreds, maybe thousands of newspapers around the world. It&acirc;€™s funny, it&acirc;€™s sweet and, at times, it&acirc;€™s brilliant. This is the third show I&acirc;€™ve done dedicated largely to Schulz. The first was an interview with his controversial biographer, David Michaelis; the second was with Schulz&acirc;€™ son, Monte, a novelist and author of This Side of Jordan. Today, I&acirc;€™m pleased to welcome Nat Gertler, who worked with the Schulz family and the Charles M. Schulz Museum and Research Center to write and compile a fabulous Charlie Brown coffee table keepsake, The Peanuts Collection: Treasures from the World&acirc;€™s Most Beloved Comic Strip. It&acirc;€™s a fabulous assemblage of images and actual reprints of all kinds of cool stuff from 60 years of the world&acirc;€™s favorite newspaper strip. (Sorry, Tintin.) Besides being the man behind a website featuring a collectors&acirc;€™ guide to Peanuts books titled, AAUGH.com, Gertler is also the co-author of The Complete Idiot&acirc;€™s Guide to Creating a Graphic Novel. Nat Gertler Website &acirc;€&cent; Facebook &acirc;€&cent; Twitter NAT GERTLER audio excerpt: &quot; My wife, when I married her, still had her Snoopy lunchbox, which my daughter now has.&quot;&Acirc;&nbsp; Open in your default player&Acirc;&nbsp;Detach into a separate window You can LISTEN to this interview with NAT GERTLER, author of THE PEANUTS COLLECTION, by clicking the audio player above! &Acirc;&nbsp; Bob Andelman is the author or co-author of 10 books, including &#039;The Profiler&#039; with Pat Brown, &#039;Built From Scratch&#039; with the founders of The Home Depot, and &#039;Will Eisner: A Spirited Life.&#039; &acirc;€&cent; Follow Bob on Twitter or Facebook. I am also looking for writers to Geekazine. People who can write about the newest gadgets coming out. If interested, please email geekazine at gmail.
