				<title>solipsistic NATION: Undiscovered Country</title>
				<link>http://play.callisto.fm/podcasts/by/jmatheny/in/Alterati-The-Inside-Scoop-on-the-Outside-Culture/episode/solipsistic-NATION-Undiscovered-Country/</link>
				<description>

I have spent over 12 hours producing today&acirc;€™s show. This last surge of nervous energy is only going to last so long so let me give you the low down on today&acirc;€™s show before I collapse into a quivering heap of exhaustion.
First off, I want to say goodbye to Adam Yauch, or as we know him, MCA of the Beastie Boys.
I wasn&acirc;€™t a fan of their Licensed to Ill album because I could never get past their douchebag posturing. But there was no ignoring their Paul&acirc;€™s Boutique album and Check Your Head was virtually my soundtrack for 1992. As I was growing and maturing, the Beastie Boys were always a couple steps ahead of me, blazing the trail.
Adam passed away last week. I&acirc;€™ll miss his wit, his compassion and his humanity. The world is a little colder place with one less Beastie. Namaste, Adam.
Life is for the living, so let&acirc;€™s get on with it.
This year&acirc;€™s Glade Festival is less than a month away and we&acirc;€™re going to bring it in with Benji Vaughan, who will be performing along with Raja Ram and Simon Posford on the Origin Stage Twisted Sound System. Between them, they are responsible for such ground-breaking music including, but not only, Shpongle, Hallucinogen, Younger Brother and Prometheus.
The MUTEK Festival is also around the corner, taking place in Montreal May 30th to June 3rd. Last year we spoke with MUTEK founder, Alain Mongeau. This year we have the pleasure of talking with Patti Schmidt, the curator, programmer and web editor for MUTEK. Patti also has the distinction of being the voice for the CBC&acirc;€˜s Brave New Waves, a music program that features music and culture from the &acirc;€œfringes and the future.&acirc;€
We&acirc;€™ll also talk with Vibin.fm&acirc;€˜s founder, Brian O&acirc;€™Toole. Vibin.fm is the Pandora of electronic music and Brian will explain how it all works, us how Vibin.fm works. Want to have a little fun? Enter any of the other artists featured on today&acirc;€™s show at Vibin.fm and see what comes up. I heard some lovely music from Kuedo, Teebs and Byetone.
Last but not least, we&acirc;€™ll chat with Craig Colorusso about his Sun Boxes. What are Sun Boxes? Sun Boxes are twenty speakers powered by solar panels. Each speaker has a different guitar note that loops. Once the piece begins they continually overlap and the piece slowly evolves over time. Oh, and be sure to check out Craig&acirc;€™s mobile Sun Boxes apps!
Today&acirc;€™s show is free. But if you enjoyed yourself, learned something new or heard something you liked, tell a friend about the show. Want to go the extra mile? Write up a quick review on our iTunes page. The more people who know about solipsistic NATION the more shows like today&acirc;€™s I can produce.
Join us again next week for a special mix featuring select tracks from the Audio Aashram Music catalog lovingly curated by Praketh, from the blueOrb podcast.
See you then!

				<title>TKC 198 Pastor Mark Pierce</title>
				<link>http://play.callisto.fm/podcasts/by/LenEdgerly/in/The-Kindle-Chronicles/episode/TKC-198-Pastor-Mark-Pierce/</link>
				<description>News - CNET hosts a video &quot;prizefight&quot; between the Kindle Touch and the Nook Simple Touch with Glowlight. &Acirc;&nbsp;Reuters quotes a source offering details of a front-lit e Ink Kindle Touch in July and an 8.9-inch Kindle Fire by the holiday shopping season. AdAge reports that Amazon has approached at least two ad agencies with a pitch for ads or special offers on a Kindle Fire.

Tech Tips - Brett McNeil&Acirc;&nbsp;McNeill on Collections for the Kindle Touch, Tom Semple on images for the Touch, and my construction of a homemade Kindle Fire stylus to use with the 99-cent Smart Writing&Acirc;&nbsp;Tool app. It was a fun project, but afterward I ordered the real thing.

Interview (Starts at 17:48) - Mark Pierce, pastor of Church Requel in Mansfield, Ohio, met me for breakfast on May 15th at the Paul Revere Family Restaurant in Lexington, Ohio. Since he had a successful career as a financial analyst before turning to the ministry, I asked him for his take on Amazon as an investment. We then moved on to technology at his church and what he has learned in the last year sharing 1,200 e-books on one Amazon account among 12 family members using about 20 Kindles and Kindle apps. After our interview, we switched microphones, and Mark recorded a separate conversation that will appear on his Church Requel Podcast Monday, May 21st.

Content - Bible by YouVision, and the debut this week of unglue.it . Also: Inside Higher Ed&#039;s post on unglue.it .

Thanks to Tom Atkinson and Bob Anderson for leaving the first two reviews of The Kindle Chronicles blog subscription at Amazon. And if you&#039;ve already signed up, I&#039;d greatly appreciate your leaving a review!

Next Week&#039;s Guest &Acirc;&nbsp;(Rescheduled from this week) -&Acirc;&nbsp;Paul Slack, co-founder of&Acirc;&nbsp;Splash Media&Acirc;&nbsp;and author of&Acirc;&nbsp;Social&Acirc;&nbsp;Rules, a soon-to-be-published 319-page step-by-step resource on how to use social media tools for bottom-line results.</description>

				<title>solipsistic NATION: Experimedia</title>
				<link>http://play.callisto.fm/podcasts/by/jmatheny/in/Alterati-The-Inside-Scoop-on-the-Outside-Culture/episode/solipsistic-NATION-Experimedia/</link>
				<description>

Today on solipsistic NATION we&acirc;€™ll listen to select tracks from Experimedia, a record label, shop, and distributor based out of Ohio and established in 2000.
I&acirc;€™ve known about Experimedia for quite some time and it&acirc;€™s kind of surprising that our paths haven&acirc;€™t crossed already. Experimedia consistently puts out quality releases, so much so that when I hear about an album that&acirc;€™s released on Experimedia, I just assume that it&acirc;€™s going to be fantastic. It&acirc;€™s that kind of dedication to excellence that I showcase labels on solipsistic NATION in the first place. This is music you need to hear.
Jeremy Bible is the man behind Experimedia and he&acirc;€™ll also be performing tonight at the RCN CAVE in Akron, Ohio. If you came to solipsistic NATION from that show, then welcome aboard!

				<title>TKC 197 James McQuivey</title>
				<link>http://play.callisto.fm/podcasts/by/LenEdgerly/in/The-Kindle-Chronicles/episode/TKC-197-James-McQuivey/</link>
				<description>News - 1) International Data Corporation (IDC) estimates that the Kindle Fire&#039;s share of the worldwide tablet market tumbled from 16.8 percent in the last quarter of 2011 to just over 4 percent in Q-1 of this year. Geoff Duncan at Digital Trends analyzes the report. 2) Target boots the Kindle.

Tech Tip - Tom Semple offers these instructions on how to use the pan/zoom mode of the Kindle Touch running the latest software version, 5.1.0:

- tap and hold until the &#039;+&#039; icon appears over the image

- tap the &#039;+&#039; icon to zoom full screen (or 100% whichever is smaller)

- pinch/spread to zoom in further, drag to pan

- touch &#039;x&#039; icon to exit zoom.

John McCormack notes that the Touch can be used as a gallery for images.

Kindle Tech Support helps me solve a nagging WiFi connection problem for my Kindle Fire. I had to enter the password of our home network every time I put the Fire to sleep. The solution: Restart the Kindle Fire by pressing and holding the power button on the bottom of the Kindle for 2 seconds and tapping &quot;Shut Down.&quot; Hold the power button for 2 seconds to turn the device back on.&Acirc;&nbsp;While the Kindle is restarting, unplug the network router for a full 15 seconds. After plugging the router back in, wait until the router has finished rebooting before attempting to connect to your Wi-Fi network again.

Interview (Starts at 12:32) - James McQuivey, vice president and principal analyst at Forrester Research, puts Q-1 Kindle Fire sales estimates into perspective but warns that poor results in the &quot;Moms, Dads, and Grads&quot; second quarter would be bad news indeed for Amazon&#039;s tablet. He welcomes the Microsoft-Barnes &amp; Noble partnership as bracing evidence of disruption in digital media. And he predicts &quot;a mess&quot; for e-book pricing if the federal court approves settlement terms for three of the Big Five publishers while the other two and Apple fight the Department of Justice antitrust suit in court.

Content - Andrys Basten notes another good Android app for reading ePub files on the Kindle Fire. It&#039;s Mantano Reader, available in a Premium version for $4.99 and a freeone. You can&#039;t download it to your Fire from the Amazon App Store, though. From your Fire, try&Acirc;&nbsp;this link to Slideme for the download; you&#039;ll need to set up a free Slideme account.

Pottermore reports impressive sales for Harry Potter ebooks. Laura Hazard Owen and Nate Hoffelder wonder what wizardly announcement Amazon was teasing early this week.
NOTE AFTER AUDIO WAS RECORDED: The suspense ended Thursday morning with Amazon&#039;s announcement that it has purchased a license making all six Harry Potter books available for free borrowing at the Kindle Owners&#039; Lending Library.
Bufo Calvin analyzes results of Amazon&#039;s Thomas &amp; Mercer mystery imprint and finds them impressive.

Next Week&#039;s Interview Guest - Paul Slack, co-founder of Splash Media and author of Social&Acirc;&nbsp;Rules, a soon-to-be-published 319-page step-by-step resource on how to use social media tools for bottom-line results.

				<title>solipsistic NATION: Tripswitch, Live</title>
				<link>http://play.callisto.fm/podcasts/by/jmatheny/in/Alterati-The-Inside-Scoop-on-the-Outside-Culture/episode/solipsistic-NATION-Tripswitch-Live/</link>
				<description>

On today&acirc;€™s show we have a very special live set from Nick Brennan of Tripswitch performing at the O.Z.O.R.A. Festival.
Nick Brennan is Tripswitch and as Tripswitch he&acirc;€™s released music that is just fantastic stuff! Nick has this knack for making music that feels well-worn and new at the same time. There&acirc;€™s something about his music that&acirc;€™s instantly familiar and feels like he&acirc;€™s always been part of your record collection. There&acirc;€™s something very English about it, too, because his music is very dreamy and idyllic with a undercurrent of darkness that surfaces from time to time.
It&acirc;€™s something I also recognized in Ott, who was our guest last June, and I think this strand can be traced back to The Orb, which can be further traced back to Pink Floyd. But that begs the question, how much further does this tradition go back in the history of English music?
We&acirc;€™ll find out when we talk with Nick. We&acirc;€™ll also talk about his alter ego, Codemonkey, and his label, Section Records.
Before we go any further, if you&acirc;€™re listening to today&acirc;€™s solipsistic NATION on Taint Radio then I&acirc;€™m afraid you&acirc;€™re not going to here the entire show. We&acirc;€™re going long because Nick has a very special recording of him performing at the O.Z.O.R.A. Festival.
Don&acirc;€™t worry, I&acirc;€™ve got you covered. Just download today&acirc;€™s show and you won&acirc;€™t miss a thing. While you&acirc;€™re here, why not visit out iTunes page and give the show a quick review. The more reviews solipsistic NATION gets, the higher ranking it gets on iTunes, which means more people might find out about the show. Which means more people might get turned on to Nick&acirc;€™s music, which would be awesome, right?
Join us again next week when we&acirc;€™ll talk with Experimedia&acirc;€˜s Jeremy Bible. See you then!
