Welcome to the maiden voyage of the DIY Music Podcast! We start off with an introduction to the podcast by our host Kevin, and then jump into the very first DIY Music Podcast roundtable discussion. For this segment, Kevin will be joined by Chris and Robert to discuss some of their own musical foibles, bungles, mishaps, and misunderstandings. Our conversation really just scratches the surface as we could have gone on for hours, maybe even days, talking about all the not-so-smart things we've done in our musical pursuits. We hope our discussion helps prevent the same mistakes in your musical journey! If you're wondering about who we are, check our profiles on the About page.

The music featured in this episode is by our very own Chris Robley. You can hear more by clicking here!

Music promotion. Everyone from the first time songwriter to the seasoned pro, ponders the question of promoting his or her musical career. There are books, 10 step programs, and even charts and graphs that claim to have solved these weighty issues for us. All we need to do is shell out a few bucks, do the steps and be on our way to success. If only it were that simple! Is it possible that these methods and programs have been trying to attack the music promotion question from the wrong angle? Thatrsquo;s where Lisa Lepine comes in. She was given the nickname, The Promotion Queen, so it was a good assumption that she would be able to offer some perspective on the matter. So, before you staple another concert poster to another telephone pole in your city, take a listen to what Lisa has to say. It might be time to rethink what will really move your career forward.

CD Baby's top selling artist, singer/songwriter Dan Zanes, has been making music for over two decades. The former member of the 80rsquo;s group, The Del Fuegos, stumbled into his biggest musical accomplishment to date, creating a brand of kidrsquo;s music that is enjoyable for the whole family. His albums and performances are more than just music, but a unique experience that encourages community as well as participation. After a packed show at the Aladdin Theater in Portland, OR, Dan took time with us to recount his story. It begins with him hitting the streets, selling CDs out of the trunk of his car. Now he tours the world and works with companies like Disney and Starbucks. With all the success, Dan Zanes remains an independent artist in the truest sense of the word!
